June 8 | World Oceans Day

In 1992, at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Canada first proposed the establishment of "World Oceans Day", aiming to enhance global awareness of Marine issues and protection. Since then, on June 8th every year, some countries have held unofficial commemorative activities. On December 5, 2008, the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 111, officially designating June 8 of each year as "World Oceans Day". In 2009, the theme of the first World Oceans Day was "Our Oceans, Our Responsibility". Since then, every World Oceans Day has revolved around a different theme, raising people's awareness and commitment to protecting the ocean.
